Tulsa Trip

The girls and I managed a little trip to Tulsa for my youngest niece’s first birthday party this past weekend. The girls had fun playing with their cousins, I stayed sane (mostly due to the fact that my parents were there in the same hotel to help!), and overall we had a good weekend.

Anna and Addie are good buds!

Hopefully Kendall and Sarah will be too, when Sarah gets a little older. They’re only 6 months apart.

Trip Part 1: Galavanting About Denver

We just took a trip! With a 19-month-old! I know people do it all the time, but we were pretty hesitant to undergo either a car trip or a plane ride with a toddler. But David had a conference in Denver last Thursday-Friday, and since his parents live in Boulder, we thought it would be a good opportunity (while his plane ticket was paid for) for me and Anna to tag along and extend the trip through the weekend so Anna could finally see her Nana and Granddad’s home.

I fully intended to get a picture of Anna on her first plane ride, but it just didn’t happen. She was quite a handful on the ride out, but we managed to keep her entertained and avoid a complete meltdown. All of us were glad to be off that plane. Fortunately, we had sprung for the direct flight. After that flight, we marveled at how we had originally debated whether or not it was worth the extra cost. It was.

So while David was cooped up in a hotel conference room, Anna and I were out enjoying Denver during what was probably some of the best weather they’ve ever had this time of year. (more…)

Trip to Mobile

Well, we made it to Mobile and back without incident, in between storms Fay and Gustav. We spent the night in Vicksburg on the way there and back, because there was no way we could do the whole trip in one day with a baby. After a few hours, Anna gets enough of that car seat!

Anna got to meet her great-grandparents—David’s mom’s parents and his dad’s mother—as well as a couple of aunts and an uncle. They were very happy to finally see her! She didn’t quite get in all the nap time she’s accustomed to, which made her a little clingy, but she was still pretty happy and gave everyone lots of those great Anna smiles. David’s blog has a couple of cute videos of them having fun together after a day of visiting.

On the return trip we got to stay in a B&B instead of a hotel. It was a little cabin on a plantation just outside of Vicksburg. If you find yourself needing to spend the night in Vicksburg for any reason, I recommend it. Beautiful setting, good-sized cabin, tasty hot breakfast. The only thing I didn’t like was the dead animal heads hanging on the walls, but that’s a matter of personal taste I guess.

Another month has come and gone

Anna is 5 months old today! I didn’t have a lot of time to take good pictures, because we’re heading out of town. We’re going to Mobile, Alabama to show Anna off to David’s grandparents and aunts and uncles. If you’ve been watching the weather lately, you’ll notice that there’s a bit of rain down around that area. Yep, it looks like we’re heading right into Tropical Storm Fay. Anyway, here she is pre-trip:

Big Birthday Bash

David, Anna, and I traveled to Tulsa this weekend for my niece Addison’s first birthday party. (Sasha had to stay behind, but she had rather nice accommodations.) Happy birthday, Sweetie!

Addie had her own little cake to get into!

She got lots of presents that make lots of noise. (We, however, did not get her anything that makes noise. Andy and Jennie, remember that when Anna turns 1! )

McFamily McReunion

No, it was not a gathering of Ronald and the Fry Guys. It was the McMillan family reunion this past weekend in Mountain View, AR. My dad is one of five siblings, and each year the five of them and their families gather somewhere for the weekend.

Most of us stayed at Sylamore Lodges just north of Mountain View. David, Anna, and I shared a house with my parents and my brother and his family—that’s six adults and 2 babies in one house—but it was plenty big, and it served as the gathering spot for the rest of the family. On Friday night we all had dinner at Angler’s White River Resort. David and I both had catfish and shrimp. Then everyone sat outside at the lodge and visited for a while. On Saturday everyone picked their own activities. David and I mostly hung out at the house, but we went into town for a little while in the afternoon, poked around a few shops, and picked up a Tommy’s Pizza to take home with us. Saturday night everyone had dinner at our place—fried chicken, barbeque, and plenty of sides. Sunday morning we again gathered at our house for breakfast before everyone headed home.
