To quote the movie “Sweet Home Alabama”

“You have a baby! In a bar!”

Indeed we did. Well, officially it’s an Irish pub, but basically, yeah, a bar. We took Anna to her first Irish pub session tonight at Cregeen’s in North Little Rock. For the first part of it, she slept as soundly as she’s ever slept. Maybe I need to record a noisy pub session and play it in her room at night.

At one point while she was taking her bottle, she was sucking to the beat of the music. That’s my girl!

Happy Birthday, Anna!

Anna is one month old today! Everyone says she is so little, but I look at her and think she is getting so big!

We had a busy day. Our friends Mike and Jill are here visiting us. For lunch we had a mini Hendrix reunion at Larry’s Pizza with Mike & Jill, Shane & Anna and their kids, Kevin & Stephanie and their kids, Kevin & Page, and Charlie.

After that we went to Hendrix with Mike and Jill and walked around a bit. We looked at all the new facilities that have sprung up since we left, and got to show Anna off to a few of our old professors.

A visit from Nana and Granddad

David’s parents flew in for the weekend to see us Anna. We had beautiful weather and Anna finally got to spend some significant time outside. Here are the proud grandparents:

I think we’re gonna make it.

Well I’ll be darned.

One of David’s coworkers sent him this article about babies’ sleep cycles. Apparently, once a baby awakes, she’ll be sleepy again and ready for a nap in 90 minutes. If you miss this opportunity, it will be another 90 minutes before she’s ready to sleep again. If you follow this pattern during the day, supposedly your baby will get the sleep she needs, she’ll sleep better at night, and peace will reign over your household, or something like that.

Well, I thought I’d give it a try. Anna woke up at 7:00, she ate, I got a shower, I gave her a bath, and I had her dry, warm, and swaddled by 8:30. And she went to sleep. For an hour. Interesting, I thought. (more…)

A Happy Man

One of David’s coworkers took these at the baby shower his office threw for Anna. I thought they were really good. Probably the happiest he’s been at work!

So much to see!

Anna seems to like looking at things now, so I pulled out the play mat with all the little dangly things on it. I think she liked it!

Not already!

I put Anna in her first 0-3 month sleeper yesterday. And it fit. Granted, it was one of the smaller ones, but still. Time to put away the newborn ones. I knew the newborn size wouldn’t last very long, but it’s still a little sad that she won’t ever wear those again.

And while we’re on the subject of clothes, what’s up with baby clothing sizes? The inconsistency is worse than women’s clothes! I can hold up two outfits, both 0-3 month, and one is tiny and one is huge. She has some 0-3 month outfits that are bigger than some of her 3-6 month outfits. I guess they start preparing little girls early for the hassle that lies ahead once they’re grown.

The maiden voyage of the AddieAnna

My dad built a boat.

My parents have this great property now with lots of land, a little lake, and a big workshop for my dad, and he’s in heaven. He named his creation the “AddieAnna” in honor of his two granddaughters—my brother’s child and mine. So here’s the big launch:

I told Anna that her Pappaw loves her very much and he named a boat after her, and not every Pappaw does that.

Going to church

Anna had her first visit to church today. Here she is, all ready in her dress, supplied by her older cousin Addison:

We went to second service, but we got there before first service let out so we could show her off to everybody. We just camped out in the atrium and let her meet everyone. She was awake and alert before service during the meet-and-greet, then she fell asleep during church—perfect! About 15 minutes before the service was over she decided she was ready for some lunch (hey, who isn’t?) so we excused ourselves to the nursery to take care of that. Of course she then pooped, and while I was changing her, spit up all over herself (sorry Addison—we’ll wash the dress!). But all in all, it was a very good first visit to church.

Big day of “firsts”

Anna had her first shopping trip today. We went to Target. We needed a few things, and I was dying to get out of the house at this point. She pretty much slept through the whole thing!

She also had her first bottle! I know they say wait at least 2-3 weeks, but hey, our child is advanced. :-) I think Daddy enjoyed getting the chance to feed her.

And finally, she had her first tub bath since her cord fell off a couple of days ago. She seemed to enjoy it a lot more than the sponge baths we had been giving her, although she hollered a bit when we got her out.
