Gingerbread Baby
I am the Gingerbread Baby,
Fresh from the pan.
If you want me,
Catch me if you can.
I love this book! We checked it out of the library, and when it was due back, I decided to just order it for the girls and pull it out every year with their Christmas books and bake gingerbread cookies.
It is Jan Brett’s version of the classic Gingerbread Boy tale, but with a much happier ending, one in which the Gingerbread Baby doesn’t get eaten up.
Our cookies, however, do. :)
Anna is quite the little baker! She loves to help I mean do it herself.
Mmmm… she likes to smell the spices:
Creaming the butter and sugar:
After the dough rests a few hours, we’re ready to roll!
“No Mommy I do it myself!”:
Time to cut:
And bake:
Wow, those got a lot bigger in the oven. I need to look for a smaller cookie cutter next year. :)
Canned frosting… hey, I have a 2-month old baby, so cut me some slack. :)
I must have been sick the day they taught cookie decorating in Home Ec. Oh wait, I never took Home Ec.
But they’re just fine for a 2-year old. :)
Mmmm!
She ate the WHOLE cookie. Right before bedtime. Yes, I let her do that.
How about making your own book using these precious pictures? I know you can do it.
love it! those look yummy!
What is that thing Anna is standing on?
Margo, it’s called the “Learning Tower” made by Williams-Sonoma (I think) for kids to help cook in the kitchen. It was an early Christmas present from her Nana and Granddad.
What a great tradition to begin…..the whole cookie right before bedtime, of course!
Great pictures — almost like being there.
that is SO sweet:) love it!!
