“Does she seem to know her name?”
This was one of the questions asked us by the nurse at Anna’s 6-month check-up today, along with other health and developmental type things. David and I looked at each other and said, “No, not really…”
I was thinking through of all the things I actually call Anna throughout the day—sweetie, sweet girl, darlin’, sweet baby, baby girl, little girl, little one, honey, precious, etc., etc.
My poor child is never going to learn her name. :-)
[Side note: I’m not worried about this, so no lectures please about how I shouldn’t be worried about this.]
I wonder what the doctor was trying to test with this question. I mean, what 6 month old would know her name? Was she trying to see if her hearing was ok? I’m sure there are other ways of testing that.
What a weird question. (And I’m glad you’re not worried about it!)
Oh, it’s just one of those developmental “milestones.” A recent issue of Parenting magazine said the average age is 8-10 months.
great posts!! especially the coke one. that’s great!
I don’t know, I think maybe you should be completely worried. That way, you can be like the rest of us mommas that worry when their child does or does not do something on time. Besides, I think “experts” like to watch parents all of a sudden sit up and take notice of what they’re saying.
I don’t know; it’s a theory anyway.
keep the little kiddos confused – that way you always have the upper hand – that’s my game plan anyway! (i’m SO just kidding!)
Oh wow!!! Anna doesn’t know her name…. Piper has been writing hers in her cereal for weeks now;)
I bet she knows Sasha’s name!
I think I call Chloe “ladybug” more than I call her Chloe. I would probably be worried though, my goodness Jennifer, are you messing her up already?!
[…] my child doesn’t know “mommy” or “daddy” or her own name, but she understands “puppy dog”! You can tell what we talk about at our house. […]
