Faces, faces

I set up a Facebook account a while ago, but I never really did anything with it. Until yesterday, that is. And holy moly, I went from about 14 friends to 48 in one day! This thing spreads like wildfire. Whether you like Facebook or not, you have to admit it’s pretty amazing how quickly you can reestablish connections with people you haven’t seen in 15 years.

I started by adding some current friends from church and such. Then I got a friend request from someone in high school, so I started looking for high school friends, and there they all were—Jennifer, Jennifer, Jennifer, Jennifer… I forgot we were all named Jennifer.

Then I wondered about old youth group friends. I found one or two, then looked through their friends and added a few, and then noticed there was a group entitled “Kirk Wooldridge or Mark Gibbons was my youth minister.” Yep, that about sums it up, and there were all my old youth group buddies.

So I can see why people get hooked on this now. It’s kinda cool. There are some design things I would do differently (or maybe I just haven’t learned how to use it yet), but I’d say it’s a pretty good tool. But then, my experience wasn’t as frustrating as David’s.

you nailed facebook exactly. for me it works on several levels…reconnecting with people from the past, especially college and high school, staying in touch with friends, meeting new people, keeping up with youth and former youth and college students from our ministries, keeping up with Christian media personalities (i have several artists, speakers, preachers, etc, on here) a little bit, etc. i love what it does for me. i blog a lot on there and love to just share my heart and let people know me and my life in a secure manner like facebook allows. i dunno, it works, for me, personally as well as ministerially.
