Faces, faces

I set up a Facebook account a while ago, but I never really did anything with it. Until yesterday, that is. And holy moly, I went from about 14 friends to 48 in one day! This thing spreads like wildfire. Whether you like Facebook or not, you have to admit it’s pretty amazing how quickly you can reestablish connections with people you haven’t seen in 15 years.

I started by adding some current friends from church and such. Then I got a friend request from someone in high school, so I started looking for high school friends, and there they all were—Jennifer, Jennifer, Jennifer, Jennifer… I forgot we were all named Jennifer.

Then I wondered about old youth group friends. I found one or two, then looked through their friends and added a few, and then noticed there was a group entitled “Kirk Wooldridge or Mark Gibbons was my youth minister.” Yep, that about sums it up, and there were all my old youth group buddies.

So I can see why people get hooked on this now. It’s kinda cool. There are some design things I would do differently (or maybe I just haven’t learned how to use it yet), but I’d say it’s a pretty good tool. But then, my experience wasn’t as frustrating as David’s.

Happy Veteran’s Day, Matt!

I’d like to publicly thank Matt Perciful, a fellow member of our church and husband to a beautiful wife and father to two adorable boys, who is serving in the military overseas right now. Thank you so much for your sacrifice and service, and thanks to your family as well for the sacrifices they have to make on a daily basis. You all are remembered and appreciated!

At the park

We’ve been trying to have a picnic or some kind of family outing every weekend this month. Today we invited some friends along—Squid & Tina and their kids, who live out of the country but are back home visiting for a little while—to the park to eat pizza and play.

It was a little cooler than I anticipated, but we bundled up:

Baby brother had to borrow one of Anna’s pink blankets, but he didn’t mind too much:

What I was doing last night

Mama went out partying last night! I didn’t get home until after midnight! What kind of trouble did I get myself into, you ask? Some wild stuff, I tell ya—the traditional Irish band Legacy out of Jackson, MS was performing for the Little Rock Folk Club last night, followed by a huge session and 50th birthday party for Judi Warner, one of our Arkansas Celtic Music Society fiddlers. I think almost the entire ACMS made it to hear the concert and celebrate with Judi. She had it catered, so we had some good food and birthday cake to keep us going. The session was probably made up of about 20 musicians I’d guess, including the band. I did more listening/visiting/eating than I did playing, as I’ve gotten quite out of practice lately and can’t quite keep up (or pretend to) as well as I used to. But it was still a lot of fun! I left about a quarter to midnight, but I don’t know how long it lasted. (Martha, do you know?) These things can go way into the wee small hours sometimes, long after all my energy is spent.

David was such a sweetie to stay home with Anna so I could go—thanks, David!

Here is a short clip from the final set of the concert. That’s Tim Britton (special guest) on uillean pipes, Valerie Plested on fiddle, and Don Penzien on guitar.

Conway friends: You’re coming, aren’t you?

I thought I’d put to good use all that influential power I have through my blog (yeah, right!) and make a plug for the Women’s Potluck Brunch this Saturday at Fellowship Bible Church. It’s at 10:00 in the atrium… er, I mean, “Fellowship Central.”

The past two Christmases I’ve had a little brunch in my home for a few friends, and I always wished I could invite everyone I knew, but I (and my house) couldn’t handle more than a few people. Then I thought how much fun it would be if it were church-wide. So I approached the Women’s Ministry leadership about starting up a potluck brunch. It’s simple, low-cost, not much planning involved, and should be fun whether there are few or many. My hope is to make it a quarterly event.

So, girls, bring something to eat and come join the fun. If you like to cook, then cook (I’m making this); if you don’t, then pick up something from the grocery store. I don’t want anyone to feel turned off because they don’t like/don’t have time to cook. By the same token, I know some of you are good decorators, but I’m not… so don’t expect anything fancy when you get there!

An Old Friend and a Photography Challenge

Last night we got to visit with my college friend Diana, her husband Tom, and their three boys. We all convened at my parents’ house and had dinner out there. It was the first time they had seen Anna, and the first time I had seen her younger two boys. (They live in the DC area now and don’t make it down this way too often, understandably!)

I took my camera and soon discovered how hard it is to photograph three active boys! (Becké and Anna W, y’all have quite a task!) Most of them were blurry. I got one of all three together, or at least the tops of their heads:

The right to bear arms…

… does not apply in this situation, sweetie! Now get that arm back in there and go to sleep!

(What, did you think this was going to be a commentary on Shane’s recent run-in with the Tulsa P.D.?)

You’re amazing, Jenny!

Thanks a million to Jenny, who took some cool pictures for us last night! Here are a few:

It’s kind of like the first day of school.

Anna’s a big girl now—6 weeks old today—so off to the church nursery she went! I was told she slept the whole time.

We have wonderful nursery workers. I’ve known them for years, and they will take just as good care of Anna as I would, if not better! She’s in good hands with them. Thank you Dawn, Julie, Tanya, Ella, and Regina (not pictured).

Happy Birthday, Anna!

Anna is one month old today! Everyone says she is so little, but I look at her and think she is getting so big!

We had a busy day. Our friends Mike and Jill are here visiting us. For lunch we had a mini Hendrix reunion at Larry’s Pizza with Mike & Jill, Shane & Anna and their kids, Kevin & Stephanie and their kids, Kevin & Page, and Charlie.

After that we went to Hendrix with Mike and Jill and walked around a bit. We looked at all the new facilities that have sprung up since we left, and got to show Anna off to a few of our old professors.
